Yes,I do recommend Kailua. You can take the city bus to Kailua town. Even the bus ride is fun!
You might want to bring a light jacket. Sometimes it gets too cold on the bus. But Hawaii is warm in March and you can go into the water. But not too many locals swim around this time of the year, mostly the tourists do.
I'm pretty sure that you'll go to Ala Moana shopping center which is the biggest shopping center in Honolulu. When you go there, try the food court. You can get so much food for reasonable price. I personally loved Yummy Korean BBQ so much.
If you take the trolley for sightseeing, it depends on where you're going, but I do recommend the blue line. It runs along the coastline and the scenery is just breath taking. But remember, some things might've changed.but these are the things I recommend!

I got back to Japan safely.
It was very very nice experience!
Though I went to three beach, Kailua beach was the most beautiful sea.Your advice was nice.Thank you.
I lent a car, so I couldn't ride city bus.
Thanks to the car, I could go around the
island! During my stay, the wether was good and warm! So I always felt comfortable!! I love Hawaii!!
I want to live there after retiring...
